Hermès Scarf “Bouteilles à la Mer” by Pierre Péron – 1959 EditionAn iconic Hermès design, the « Bottles in the Sea » scarf is a poetic creation by Pierre Péron, first released in 1959.
Its remarkably delicate motif depicts a series of ancient ships and sailing vessels in bottles, drifting on a golden yellow background evoking the shifting light of the sea. The presence of goldfish, which, in relation to the red flags, adds a vibrant touch to the design, is also noteworthy.
These bottles were masterpieces of navigation—caravels, three-masted ships, and ships of the line—created by sailors, lighthouse keepers, and others in their spare time.
The whole is framed with nautical rope.
This design has enjoyed lasting success, reissued several times by Hermès: 1975, 2005, 2009.
A composition that is both nostalgic and graphic, it symbolizes the link between craftsmanship, the sea, and the timeless elegance of Hermès.

A close examination revealed a tiny « S » for « sales » in one corner. Look at the two last photos
This mark is very rare and doesn’t detract from its value; I’d even say it enhances it.
I think it would be very interesting to frame and would look great in a nautical-themed interior.
