Hermès silk scarf Cortège Royal, designed by Philippe Ledoux in 1968.
The composition is built around two key elements: the coats of arms — placed at the centre and again in one corner — and a group of feathers, located in a single corner of the scarf.
Ledoux gives particular attention to these feathers, drawn with very fine lines and subtle shading that creates a light, supple texture. Their isolated placement in one corner sets up a visual contrast with the rest of the design and evokes the decorative plumage used in royal processions on harnesses and ceremonial attire.
The colors are a white background with a blue border, and the patterns are highlighted in black, red, and blue. Gray shadows and lines add depth.
It may seem anachronistic or « old-fashioned, » but it’s very pretty, chic, and flattering.
The scarf is in perfect condition, hand-rolled, 100% silk twill.
