Hermès Scarf “Carrousel” – Christiane Vauzelles (1984)
Magnificent Hermès silk scarf titled “Carrousel”, designed by Christiane Vauzelles and issued in 1984. Inspired by the work of Jean Bérain (1640-1711), official designer of Louis XIV’s court, it depicts the King’s horse in full ceremonial tack, surrounded by riders in parade costumes, capturing the splendor of the equestrian carrousels and tournaments held at Versailles.
🔎 Jean Bérain was one of the most prominent creators of the French classical era – a designer, decorator, and engraver who imagined the costumes, harnesses, stage sets, and festivities of the Sun King. His refined, symmetrical style became a hallmark of Versailles decorative arts.
Set against a vivid blue background with white, grey, orange, and red accents, the design radiates movement and royal elegance.
