This design highlights the jaguar and a little-known tropical bird called the quetzal.
In this composition, Alice Shirley pays tribute to the jaguar warriors of the pre-Columbian Aztec civilisation. She depicts a feline adorned with a magnificent headdress freely inspired by the famous Penacho preserved at the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna. Made of feathers and stones, with an impressive wingspan, its beauty derives from the brilliance of more than four hundred quetzal feathers.
The quetzal is a tropical bird native to Central and South America; its name means “long green feathers” in Aztec.
