The House of Charvet
Edouard Charvet founded the oldest shirtmaker in Paris in 1838. He showed great audacity by opening a shirtmaking house intended for people of high society. Until then, shirts were made privately, with shirtmakers travelling to clients’ homes. He built up one of the most prestigious clienteles imaginable, including Eiffel, the Prince of Wales, Zola, Offenbach, and many crowned heads — and later on, General de Gaulle.
