Hermès silk scarf L’Art d’Écrire, the 2005 reissue of the original 1957 design.
Inspired by an instructional plate from Diderot and d’Alembert’s Encyclopédie, the composition highlights the art of handwriting: calligraphy exercises, cursive alphabets, “lettre bâtarde,” demonstrations of line thickness, and small vignettes showing writing techniques of the 18th century.
The scarf is printed in black on an ivory background. Hermès even used this model in an advertising campaign to emphasize its austere, colour-free construction and the clarity of its pen-drawn motifs.
This piece is in mint condition, still in its original folds, and comes with its original Hermès box.
